Athletic Center Design Review and FF&E Specification

Haverford, PA

image ribbon.jpg Brailsford & Dunlavey was selected by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson in 2001 to provide design review and support services, as well as sports and fitness equipment specifications and layouts, for the new Integrated Athletic Center (IAC) at Haverford College. The IAC would house Athletic Department offices; all locker room and training facilities; practice and competition facilities for volleyball, basketball, squash, and fencing; multipurpose aerobics/dance rooms; and weight and fitness training spaces. The building would be open and available for recreational use as well as for varsity practice and competition. The building entrance would be designed to function as an event lobby for major competitions as well as a comfortable student lounge space that would complement the adjacent campus student center and outdoor connector plaza.

B&D provided technical and operational input for the design from the earliest planning stages; developed a building-wide budget for furniture, fixtures, and equipment; offered technical advice on sports and fitness equipment; and designed the weight and fitness equipment layout. B&D's involvement in the design process included direct interaction with the client, participation in design team meetings, and consulting directly with the architect.image court.jpg

The new $20 million, 100,000 square foot Douglas B. Gardner '83 Integrated Athletic Center opened in October 2005. This project has since received a 2006 Award of Merit by Mid-Atlantic Construction Magazine and a 2007 Architectural Showcase award by Athletic Business Magazine. The Center also has received LEED "Gold" certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
