Beth Penfield, LEED AP

PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND

Ms. Penfield joined the B&D team with a strong background in sport and recreational facility management and a deep knowledge of higher education issues. Prior to joining the firm, she worked as the event manager for The George Washington University's Department of Athletics. Working closely with the facilities and operations team, she was responsible for the planning, budgeting, and overall management for all intercollegiate and special events.

Ms. Penfield’s B&D portfolio includes university and professional stadium and arena feasibility studies, student housing master plans and campus edge development analysis, and program management services for the District of Columbia Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization (OPEFM).

Ms. Penfield has been a member of the B&D joint venture, DCPEP, the OPEFM Program Management team since the agency was created by Mayor Adrian Fenty in 2007. As a key member of the team, she has worked on the Master Facilities Plan, Capital Improvement Plan, “greening” the DCPS Design Guidelines, and has served as the program manager for individual modernization projects. She leads OPEFM’s efforts for greening the district’s schools, serving as the liaison to several District agencies. In 2009, Ms. Penfield oversaw the successful completion of HD Cooke Elementary School, a 100-year old facility which was the first DC Public School and first school facility in the mid-Atlantic region to achieve LEED for Schools Gold certification from the US Green Building Council. She now serves as the Program Manager for the historic Woodrow Wilson High School, the largest comprehensive high school in the District of Columbia, and Stoddert Elementary School.

Ms. Penfield is a LEED Accredited Professional and holds a Master's of Business Administration from George Washington University with a concentration on sport and facility management.

    • "B&D's expertise gave us the confidence to move forward, secure the financing and begin constructing our $15 million family recreation center. What was a dream for so long is now becoming a reality. Brailsford & Dunlavey was the force we needed to jump-start our dream. We have since recommended B&D to municipalities and organizations who have contacted us about our success. We highly recommend them."
