Central Washington University
Arena Preliminary Assessment
In August 2005, Central Washington University and Ellerbe Becket retained Brailsford & Dunlavey to analyze the University's competitor institutions and comparable facilities to determine whether or not the factors that impact success are present at Central Washington. Furthermore, upon preparing research materials, B&D was tasked with outlining the required next steps for the University to continue pursuing a full feasibility study for its proposed arena project.
To complete this assessment, B&D performed a competitive context analysis consisting of 16 of the University's conference competitors and regional competitors, as well as five private arenas in the region. B&D also conducted Internet research and phone interviews with university officials and facility managers.
The competitive context analysis consisted of the following information:
- University data (tuition and fees, enrollment, geographic setting, student rations, etc)
- Arena/Sports Complex data (capacity, year built, athletic uses, number of club seats, suites, facility manager, etc.)
- Average yearly attendance figures
- Private/Public Arenas (size, capacity, construction costs, rental rates, types and number of events)
- Population and distance from Central Washington University
As a result, the University is using B&D's analysis to determine how best to proceed with the proposed arena project.
