Young Harris College
Recreation Center Program Management
In October 2008, Young
Harris College engaged Brailsford &
Dunlavey to provide programming and A/E
selection services for the development of a new
campus recreation center. Soon
thereafter, B&D was retained to serve as
the College’s representative and primary
interface with the selected architects and
construction management firm in the design and
construction of a new recreation facility.
The College had recently received accreditation as a four-year, baccalaureate degree-granting institution, offering upper level classes beginning in the fall of 2009. As the College expanded from a two- to four-year institution, a new facility would be needed to provide enhanced recreational and fitness accommodations to meet the projected increase in student enrollment.
Serving as the owner’s representative for the College, B&D is managing the design and construction of the facility in a manner consistent with the development budget and desired program, while keeping the College fully informed concerning issues related to scheduling, design, construction, and budgeting. The new recreation center will include the following types of spaces: three-court gymnasium, elevated jogging track, weight and fitness areas, indoor rock-climbing wall, juice bar / foodservice area, lounge area, locker rooms, multipurpose classrooms for yoga/aerobics/dance, academic classrooms, and an administrative office suite.
The new 57,000 square foot Recreation Center opened in August 2010.
