Boise State University
Student Housing Master Architect Selection
In the spring of 2002, Boise State University hired Brailsford & Dunlavey in conjunction with Hanbury Evans Wright Vlattas to develop a detailed RFQ and RFP to help select a design/build team to build 175 apartments around the front entrance to the campus. This was B&D's second assignment with the University after completing a Comprehensive Housing Master Plan in 2001
The Housing Master Plan revealed that student
housing could play a
critical role in the University's goal to
attract more out-of-state
students and develop a more comprehensive
campus community through
improvements and expansions of the existing
student housing inventory.
At the time, the University provided
approximately 1,000 beds on campus
while serving a growing enrollment of more than
16,000 students.
The project, known as the University Courts Replacement, removed 83 family apartments to make way for a mix of single and family student apartments. The final design needed to carefully consider the wishes of each distinct demographic group. The B&D team was responsible for developing a site analysis, campus housing design standards, architectural and engineering specifications, data sheets, and selection of the final design/build team.
