University of Connecticut
Student Union Needs Analysis
Brailsford & Dunlavey was retained by
the University of Connecticut to examine the
needs and preferences for developing a newly
renovated student union on campus. In
addition, B&D was asked to determine the
extent to which a newly designed student union
could fit within an expanded version of the
existing building's envelope, while
understanding the union's impact on the
University's administrative and staffing
efforts.
B&D's scope of work included a review of University materials and planning documents, focus groups, and interviews with University administrators and constituent groups. After B&D reported its findings, the University agreed with B&D's recommendations and assigned WTW Architects to proceed with developing design schemes.
The University re-opened its newly renovated student union in October 2006.
